There are many presentations, programs and activities of historical and heritage interest happening in the Hamilton community. We hope to share in the task of making them known not only to our own membership but to the wider Internet community. We are quite aware that this listing is far from complete. However, we do want to expand it. If you know of additional events that ought to be listed here, please submit them via e-mail. Friday, February 10th. This is the date for The Head of the Lake Historical Society's Heritage Dinner. Details will be announced.
Sunday, February 19th. The MacNab Circle is hosting the 44th. Annual Dinner to celebrate the birthday of Sir Allan Napier MacNab. It will be held at the Scottish Rite on Sunday, Feb. 19th. Friday, February 24th. The Waterdown-East Flamborough Heritage Society will meet in the Fellowship Hall at St. James United Church, 306 Parkside Drive, Waterdown, at 8:00 pm.
Thursday, March 15th. The Hamilton Mountain Heritage Society meets at 7:30 pm at Olivet United Church, 40 Empress Avenue, on the Mountain in Hamilton. The program will feature a presentation by Bob Williamson entitled "It Just Isn't So!" He tells of local and world historical "facts" that are commonly believed but are just not true.
Friday, March 16th. - Note Change of Date. The Head of the Lake Historical Society meets in the Coach House at Dundurn Castle at 7:30 pm. "Ecanada Pottery and the Potters of Hamilton" is the title of a presentation by David Beland.
Friday, March 30th. The Waterdown-East Flamborough Heritage Society will meet in the Fellowship Hall at St. James United Church, 306 Parkside Drive, Waterdown, at 8:00 pm.
Friday, April 13th. The Head of the Lake Historical Society meets in the Coach House at Dundurn Castle at 7:30 pm. Mary Pettit talks about "The Home Children".
Friday, April 27th. The Waterdown-East Flamborough Heritage Society will meet in the Fellowship Hall at St. James United Church, 306 Parkside Drive, Waterdown, at 8:00 pm.
Friday, May 11th. The Head of the Lake Historical Society meets in the Coach House at Dundurn Castle at 7:30 pm. To celebrate Museums Month Darla Campbell of the HMCS Haida National Historic Site will provide a history of this historic warship.
Thursday, May 17th. The Hamilton Mountain Heritage Society meets at 7:30 pm at Olivet United Church, 40 Empress Avenue, on the Mountain in Hamilton. Dr. Christine Lei will present case studies of ten women admitted to the Hamilton Asylum between 1876 and the early 1900s. Were they insane or made insane?
Thursday, September 20th. The Hamilton Mountain Heritage Society will meet at the Educational Archives and Education Centre of the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board. The EACH Manager, John Aikman, will explain the evolution of the Centre, followed by a tour of the facility. More details will be posted as the date approaches.
